QED Structures Barcelona was proud to attend the recent Construction of Data Centres event, hosted by Group Via at the Hotel Barcelona Centre. This key industry gathering brought together leading stakeholders from across the data centre ecosystem to explore the evolving landscape of digital infrastructure in southern Europe.
As Barcelona continues to solidify its position as a strategic digital hub in the Mediterranean, the region is experiencing significant momentum in technological advancement. Initiatives such as 5G Barcelona and the broader Smart Connectivity strategy are not only elevating the city’s digital profile but also attracting substantial investment. Catalonia is set to receive over €3.5 billion in data centre investment, with installed power expected to grow by 52% by 2026. This is a clear indication of the region’s growing importance in the global digital economy.
The event served as an excellent platform for professionals to exchange insights on key trends shaping the industry. Topics ranged from innovative approaches to data centre design and project delivery to the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation. A strong emphasis was also placed on sustainability, with discussions centred around reducing carbon footprints, optimising energy efficiency, and aligning with the European Green Deal.
Notable highlights included compelling presentations by Mikel Lotina Pereda of IDOM and Charles Cortadas of B-Global Tech, both of whom shared forward-thinking perspectives on how design excellence and cutting-edge technology are redefining modern data centres.
For QED Structures, the day proved immensely valuable—not only for the knowledge shared but also for the opportunity to connect with peers and partners across the sector. We look forward to contributing to this dynamic and rapidly evolving landscape, and to supporting the digital transformation of the region through innovative structural solutions.
