Six Months In: A Conversation with Carolina

We are delighted to celebrate Carolina, a skilled Associate Director who became part of the QED team six months ago at our London office. Recently, we had the pleasure or interviewing Carolina to gain insight into her journey, experiences, and reflections during her time with us.

What is your name and how long have you been working at QED?

Carolina Lameiras and I have been at QED since the end of February 2025.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love attending live music and I try to do that at least once every 2 months; I love travelling and moulding my kids as my travelling companions; and I love reading but currently I find it hard to find time to read.

Which office are you based in and how do you travel to work?

I am based in London, and the usual commute is a combination of train, bus and walking.

What is your favourite thing about where you live?

I love London because of the mash up of different cultures and I love the architecture, and how different neighbourhoods have their own quirkiness.

When did you go to university and what did you study?

A few lifetimes ago!!! I graduated in 2004. Studied Civil Engineering and have been working as a Structural engineer since.

What was your last job like and how have you progressed since then?

I worked in a cooperate environment and was able to dip my toes into another sector that I didn’t have the opportunity to work in.
Progression is part of what I love about being an engineer – since joining QED, I have been able to work on projects that I have not worked on before gaining new valuable skills.

Are there any challenges you have had to overcome since working at QED?

There are always challenges in engineering, from learning new ways to manage and inspire younger engineers, to new skills to deal with the current rapid changes in codes/standard and guidance in the industry. The way to overcome these challenges are to continue to learn, to update our knowledge bank through attending training, reading technical notes etc.

What have you enjoyed about your time at QED so far?

I really enjoy working with my colleagues, whether they are based in London, Barcelona, Manchester or Hove. I am looking forward to meeting them in person soon.

Are there any jobs that stand out? If so, why?

Every project is unique in their own way and present different challenges. I have enjoyed all the projects so far.

Are there any additional comments you wish to make?

Thank you for the opportunity to welcoming me into QED.
