We are excited to celebrate Daniel, a talented Revit Technician who joined QED six months ago in our London office. We recently interviewed Daniel to talk about his journey, experiences, and reflections during his time with us.
What is your name and how long have you been working at QED?
My name is Daniel Edmonds; I joined QED Structures 6 months ago.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy video games, namely RPGs and strategy games, and problem solving. I tend to play these when I have free time, and I have been slowly getting back into running.
Which office are you based in and how do you travel to work?
I am based in the London office, and it takes me 80mins to travel to work via Elizabeth line.
What is your favourite thing about where you live?
I enjoy walking around London and seeing all of the different buildings and ongoing construction works.
When did you go to university and what did you study?
I went to LSBU, on day release as part of the apprenticeship scheme doing an engineering degree. I enjoyed learning topics I wouldn’t learn in the workplace and meeting a number of other people in a similar position, but with different experiences in the industry.
What was your last job like and how have you progressed since then?
In my last job I started as an engineering apprentice, taking on more of a document control role, gradually becoming more CAD focused. Eventually I moved over from an engineering role, utilising Revit and document control for multiple projects.
Are there any challenges you have had to overcome since working at QED?
My previous experience was limited to using just Revit, with less oversight. It has been good to work to a higher standard in Revit by following the BIM Protocol and communicating with others. I have been developing my skills in AutoCAD more as I work to create a standard for this.
What have you enjoyed about your time at QED so far?
I enjoy the range of projects QED focuses on, and the engineers I have worked with. Everyone has been very welcoming and happy to answer any questions I have had.
Are there any jobs that stand out? If so, why?
Leyton has stood out as the kind of larger project I have gotten to sink my teeth into. Conway Bus Depot has been constantly changing, and required making a significant number of details, which has been a good learning experience.
