Six Months In: A Conversation with Robert

We are delighted to celebrate Robert, a skilled Senior Structural Engineer who joined QED six months ago at our Manchester office. Recently, we had the pleasure or interviewing Robert to gain insight into his journey, experiences, and reflections during his time with us.

What is your name and how long have you been working at QED?

Robert Lockhart and I joined QED in September 2025.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I like to train for hyrox and compete in hyrox races. I train around 5 times a week.

Which office are you based in and how do you travel to work?

Manchester office. I take the lime scooters to work as I don’t live far from the office.

What is your favourite thing about where you live?

I love all the different types of restaurants and sport facilities the city has.

When did you go to university and what did you study?

I went to university in 2013 and studied Civil Engineering. I liked the learning process and group projects I’d work on as well as the uni life style.

What was your last job like and how have you progressed since then?

I worked on a lot of post tension slab design jobs. I feel I have progressed as I take more of a leading role on projects.

Are there any challenges you have had to overcome since working at QED?

Projects I haven’t had much experience in has been a challenge but I’m confident in finding the right guidance to find the correct solution.

What have you enjoyed about your time at QED so far?

I enjoy the variety of work. Each day can feel different to the previous.

Are there any jobs that stand out? If so, why?

I’m enjoying the Royal Salford job as it involves team meetings, site visits, surveys and has a variety of tasks involved.
