We are delighted to celebrate Tim, a skilled Senior Engineer who became part of the QED Structures team six months ago at our Barcelona office. Recently, we interviewed Tim to gain insight into his journey, experiences, and reflections during his time with us.

What is your name and how long have you been working at QED?

Tim Holt, I have been with QED 6 months

What are your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy keeping active and the outdoors. Huge fan of the beach so will go there as much as I can and try and get to the gym a few times each week. Also enjoy spending time with friends here in Barcelona and speaking with friends/family back in Australia.

Which office are you based in and how do you travel to work?

I am in the Barcelona office; most days I catch the metro but sometimes I will walk to work

What is your favourite thing about where you live?

Everything! There is always something happening and the weather is pretty good as well.
When I came to Barcelona it was only meant to be for 1 year, but enjoyed it so much I decided to stay, and have now been here almost 2 years with no plans to leave anytime soon.

When did you go to university and what did you study?

University of South Australia.
I studied a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, while it was interesting learning the basics of a wide range of disciplines (civil, geotechnical, water resource, traffic, structural etc.) I discovered early on that structural engineering was the one for me.

What was your last job like and how have you progressed since then?

I was a structural engineer back in Australia and continued working on a part time basis remotely from Spain when I first arrived. With all my past experience within the Australian market I have certainly progressed and learnt a lot with my time so far at QED.

Are there any challenges you have had to overcome since working at QED?

While the engineering concepts are largely the same, it has certainly been interesting learning the differences between the Australian and European construction methodologies and approval processes.

What have you enjoyed about your time at QED so far?

Everything is a little bit new again, learning the small differences and adjusting to the Eurocodes has been interesting. I also enjoy the wide range of projects I have worked on since joining QED. Everything from small residential extensions up to multi-story apartment buildings.
